Description:

Offered odd numbered years.

This course is designed for graduate students and advanced undergraduates wanting to learn biochemistry that is characteristic of plants. The course is taught in two 75-minute lectures per week. There are 2 "in-class" midterms scheduled during the semester. The final is given during the assigned final exam period and is not cumulative. A few short quantitative exercises may also be assigned in lieu of some of the points for any one exam. Grading is based on the average of all three exams. There is no textbook for this course. Many general biochemistry texts have excellent sections on photosynthesis. In addition there are several excellent textbooks specifically about plant biochemistry that have been published recently. The following textbooks will be held on reserve at Steenbock library:

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Plants
. Buchannan, BB, Gruissem, W, and Jones, RL editors. American Society of Plant Physiologists publisher, (2000) 1367 pages.  This is a useful reference book you might want to have. It is available from American Society of Plant Biologists (www.aspb.org)

Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Heldt, H-W. Oxford University Press 3rd edition (2005)
