Description:

This course explores various strategies that have evolved to regulate gene expression in microbes, basic bacterial cell biology, and the growing fields of microbial systems and synthetic biology. The greatest emphasis in the course is placed on understanding the diversity of regulatory strategies that have evolved, how they are interconnected, and on knowledge of these strategies can be used to create new regulatory mechanisms and novel microbial applications.

Prerequisites: Bacteriology 607 or 612.
