About Us

The Biochemistry TEM facility houses a state of the art Technai T12 transmission electron microscope with high quality digital imaging capabilities.  The electron microscope is the standard for sub-cellular ultrastructural imaging at high magnification.  A full complement of specimen preparation equipment is onsite as well.

The specimen preparation equipment includes:
Balzers HPM 010 high pressure freezer, for fast immobilization of delicate and labile structures.
Balzers freeze substitution unit for low temperature chemical fixation and/or resin embedding. 
Leica Ultracut ultramicrotome.
A Ladd digital vacuum evaporator with rotary shadowing unit is also available
