The Khorana program is starting
with the exchange of students and scholars
between select Indian institutions and the
University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The Khorana program also envisions
applied research that benefits
rural/agricultural development in India.
A third leg of the program would place
students and scholars in internships
with appropriate industries both in
the US and in India.
Always among America’s leading research universities, UW’s level of
excellence is also reflected in the top rankings of such fields as
microbiology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemistry, computer
science, agriculture, and many others. UW was second in the nation in
overall research and development expenditure in 2006. The University of
Wisconsin-Madison is also perennially among the top five universities
translating research into patents, licenses and new companies, with
over 300 patents filed this year and a booming biotech industry growing
around the university. Thus, UW provides a rich environment for
students and scholars to explore new ideas and develop their scientific
acumen. UW, with nearly 100 faculty of Indian descent and a century
long tradition of nurturing outstanding Indian faculty, is uniquely
suited for joint programs with leading institutions in India.
